I know what love does
it is the sun and rain and plants
it is the animals who graze by day
and give us life
it is the wine of the earth,
of the heavens

I saw it rise in the east
I saw its life in the wings of the birds
and the clouds of the skies;
the dew that wet the grass of morn

It rises within my breast
and rests upon you
it knows no end, nor beginning
it is the sun

it bids my tongue to speak
yet silent my secrets keep
but they are not secret

stories shame me
of days gone by
but todays sorrows was the envy of yesteryear
simple my land has become

and strange my heart boasts of love

though moments of stupidity
of anger, of discontent,
they fail
to extinguish my breast

for love teaches me to keep silent
and to speak, to tell of wonders
and to marvel at beauty

a song forms upon my lips
the overflow of the happiest heart
even a foolish one

I've seen the shadow of pain
of cruel days
of lost
yet somehow the song of life bubbled through it all

I boast of love
yes, of love

Copperbell,
I like what you have learned of love and taught. It rings true...

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

James - I know love is a common theme of your poems, I'm glad you enjoyed this

Larry - it's a beautiful thing isn't it?

Thanks Dixie.  I needed to read that poem again tonight - and I wouldn't have had I not read your response.
