Listening to every heart

“I Like Dappled!”

What more can be said of a poet
who willingly, charmingly smiles
and honors her guest for some time spent,
without any guiles or wiles…

“I like dappled,” she grinned, and syrup-felt warmth
made my stay oh, so complete…
a call to a poet, and touching of hands,
made this, my life, ever sweet…

“I like dappled,” and I heard her every word,
and thought of horses and dappled greys,
for I am Sag born, and Sag I would ride,
yes, “dapples” would make my day….

So dappled she was in a moment of hither
“Martie!” I called in some light;
she turned, did not flinch, my poet of feathers,
and I found in her smile, my delight…

For she had brought me to Fullerton,
its Arboretum ~ waited for our gaze
as sunlight was found in heat of the town,
and we were thus swept up in its daze…

It seemed as if countries would greet us,
from deep south to a Caribbean tour…
to lofty pines, and sweet gentile ways
for sighlights were beginning my cure.

And then the introductions were given…
for upon her own bench we sat…
“See that tree of the fall-up leaf?”
Her story was then begat…

And then the story of the bench,
how special were its terms
for wherever Ms. Martie pens a poem,
winds sigh, and oceans churn…

I felt the moment to take heed
of the quiet that had drawn close
and rambled myself beyond my friend
to feel spirits of nearby ghosts…

To see through the tree, toward the bench,
to where our own flower-girl sat quiet;
I pondered upon the fortune of me,
then wandered in wonderings’ riot

For I know a poet’s need of time
the need to sit and contemplate,
and that is when the dragonflies
began a dance of ponder’s relate…

For flit and soar of a dragonfly
can mesmerize all who might see;
the click then swick of weightless wings
was a dance given just to me…

How fair this day, how true and gay
the time a beloved poet gave to me…
I worried for words, thought they wouldn’t be heard,
and yet?  They came to be…

I cannot explain, nor shall I try,
the braiding of souls who should be
for all or nothing but poets one finds,
in Passions’ halls of Poetry.

~*~

Dedicated to Martie and Taylor,
For their giving of time and hospitality,
and to the Poets Of Passions ~
Where all good things can happen.

Karilea sissy

Look, you've made me a film star!  You listen so well, and yes, I really do love dappled.  I think maybe I should have taken that camera of yours, and made a picture of you!  You are so lovely.  Thank you.

Ah, to be a fly on the wall and watch this  story unfold
Would fill the heart of any poet and form a picture to hold.

A beautifully penned bond between two fine poets.  Ken

How very lovely, and how lucky are those of us who have a friend who inspires us to write poetry about them.

a truly fine tribute to a receiver of poetic muse and the art of friendship, too

lovely words, lovely photos...when I saw "dappled" I too thought of dappled grey horses, but I also thought of a stream in autumn...dappled with autumn leaves floated and reflected upon the surface--dancing in ripples of color

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
