Crepe-paper fluorescents hanging their coats
Singing with forty-watt radios
Fingernails digging into social workers
Holding on by a tooth
To hit or miss pumpkin-colored skies

In the night…alone,
Indian women, drunk with spirits
Driving cars right through death
Onto, the other side of realization
Now whose the native loosing their land?

Someone has to form silky loops?
Even if the elevator goes down!
Telephones
Ringing everywhere,
Soft-wear engineers with
Low scooped necklines volunteering
News media dressed for migration
Green cards whispering
“You complete me”

Screwing sunflowers in the sky
Like a dangerous tickle in my throat
Someone, please throw me
A bottlebrush
To clean black echoes
From my church, wearing priests cloths
Closing hospitals….

Rubbing my eyes clean of organized religion
Meager furnishings never scared me
Nor do uninvited guests throwing stones
I ponder, how can these people give
What they’ve never known?
For a work visa, destination unknown?

Long as there is a lamp on the table next to me
I would die to keep that balance
That quite place, wanting me
For my child, for the elderly
For the kind of work we all do
Together as a team
It’s not about the money
But…pulling the door shut to separations

They’re putting out cigarette butts
In the name of health?
In the name of welfare
Opening up lines to superhighways
6 million people doodling 3 sur-names
With 3 different photos on their shirts
While the gatekeepers determine whose names
They draw…and Congress turns their heads
Sanctions given to employers
Who hire monthly subscriptions,
Under minimum wage…
While our children watch sesame street in Spanish
Pretending to enjoy work permits

Pushing air pollution off rock jetties
In the middle of the night
Lest they draw an audience
While playing with fire
Bi-lingual yachts beached in California
Welcome to the USA
Everything’s for free!
Why, we’ll even print manuals in your language
Watch your favorite soap operas on TV
in other languages?
Generate counseling cause your child feels out of place?
Doesn’t feel like he/she fits in?
but, they drive without insurance or licenses????
Where's the justice and who do you think is
paying for their lawyers?

We all need that quiet place Lee.  Enjoyed your thoughts today very much.

enjoyed the recollection of the inside of an immigration centre with the hustle abd bustle, the waiting lines and forms to fill everywhere...
