Moved from a shack to a barn

Death just hadn’t been himself lately
not since that unpleasantness they called The Crusades
To him, it was decades of heat and sand
and grisly business

Then, there was The Plague
a time when work was literally stacked around him

But now, this morning,
there was some time for him, a break from the usual

To lie on the bank with a thistle in his teeth
playing “what am I?” with the clouds overhead
and listening to the brook babbling its secrets
into the canopy of willow who keeps them

Standing and shucking the mantle of his office
he strides through the Loosestrife into the stream
down into a dark room of a pool
where he reflects on what his existence is lacking

Love, he knew, was never part of the bargain
though he saw what being loved must be like
in the eyes those who saw him as Savior
but that has always been a rare thing, and fleeting at best

Looking up, he sees the leaves
forming themselves into a great green armada
escorting a garland made of Crowflowers and Daisies
and a billowing white where no cloud should be

Ophelia’s gown, now grown heavy
the fingers of current plucking and pulling at it
her last mad song is now sung in bubbles
as she sinks into his pool, his arms, his embrace

Should I have titled this NecrOphelia?

You draw from a deep well, my friend. Even at the surface this is good poetry....and in the depths of it, excellent.

Delicious.  A keeper.  Although, I don't know any of your writes that aren't keepers.  You write with such flavor.  It's refreshing, like jumping into a creek.  Great, great poem.

Warm regards,
Kevin

It seems to me, that we both had clouds on our minds . . . *grin*

I see so much of (your perception of) yourself in here.

The only difference, is that for you, love was never fleeting . . .

This is amazing because it made me think how pissed off death is today that we pretty much just off ourselves with so much garbage and emotional baggage whether it be literal dying or soul death.  Whatever the case, we do make his job quite easy.

from this miraculous soul poem, comes an ascent of vigulance....understanding to the uncertainties...and somehow speaks to me of death...whose to say, it is a bad thing?
I don't believe it is, and you have given death his own holiday....here....
insightful and thought provoking
Enjoyed

I loved Sy's comment to you and he nailed it!  When you go to read Sir Wranx you do indeed not only swim, but sink, and darn near drown in the words. I sure loved the idea of the willow guarding the secrets, and agree if only trees could talk what a story they would tell.

loved floating in your words Wranx.  But then again, I always do!

Nicely done, Wranx. Nope, I like the title, the other is too -- too.

Good to read your words again, they always contain water, have you noticed that?
