Reminisce

I often reminisce my time
And sink back in the snow of prime
Where youth was spent on dear and beer
And I ignored the state of fear

Sixty years or so ago
It was in Alaska’s snow
Checking engines made for war
Frozen shadows on the floor

Where freezing metal caught my skin
And only flame could freedom win
With ice upon my bearded lip
And clouds from nose with frozen drip

Where shadows froze upon the ground
And to this day are still around
Just dig on down the sixty years
And there am I with my piers

Hustling a war ago
In Alaska’s frozen snow

Its amazing the things we dont think important when we are younger Sey and then as we mature we see things in a different ligt.  Enjoyed your ponderings much this morning my friend.  Good Morning.

Brrrrrr ....... these memories make me shiver in cold. This means you write so well and captivatingly, that I "enter the scene".

And you made surface a most vivid childhood memory of ice and cold .... when among children we were silly enough in cold Winter back in Switzerland to show our courage to each other by sticking our tongues on a frozen iron bar, where it stuck, as long as our breaths didn't melt the ice!

I love your reminiscing!

.... "when we did not know fear!" Yes, that's youth!

Love and hugs.

Thank you for this above, it is so original that it caught me in the wonder of it.  I have never lived in the cold, and after reading your poem, I don't think I want to.  My shadow always melts in the sun and when I come inside, I know it is gone.  I looked.  Thanks for digging, and finding this in your past's treasure box.

Hi, Seymour!  So you were there....I had a friend named Tom Beard who was there, too.  This poem seemed much different than many you've written.  It feels like it has a very special significant and thanks for sharing it.     ......jo

I enjoyed this read of reminisce. I also enjoy learning more about my favourite sonneteer!

Big, extra-warm hugs to take out that Alaskan chill that may still be lingering in your bones!
