Moved from a shack to a barn

Every now and then
I take some keys from my keychain

The ones I have no need of
The ones I have no use for

It’s funny, how a key’s last official act
Is often, the locking of something
Then never returning

Only to find itself jangling on your ring
Along with the rest of the crowd
Trying to blend in, hoping to belong

And years pass before you notice
You have collected these small metal
“Milles borne”

“Mystery” keys that were once important
But you can’t, for the life of you
Remember what they opened

Most of them seemed vaguely familiar
Like the skyline of a city
That I might have visited

I’ve thrown away dozens of them
Exiling them forever from locks gone missing
Their purpose faded past memory

Keys to doors that no longer recognize me
Doors, that were once welcoming
And kept the world at bay

Keys to cars that went on to live with somebody else
Or now, lie in mass graves
Their organs transplanted to others

But, Confucius did say, didn’t he?
“That a man with too many keys
Is a man with too many locks”

*smiling at you*
do you have any damn idea of just how profound this write is?

But, Confucius did say, didn’t he?
“That a man with too many keys
Is a man with too many locks”

*shakin my head*
incredible...
just incredible..

The greatest beauty on earth, is
found in the hearts of those
who love....

I LOVED that ending!
Now, to go throw away some useless keys.

Try moving a lot. I actually started making windchimes out of them with pieces of orphan silverware, try it sometime when "you have nada thing to do," they tinkle really nicely

Loved the poem and sure identified with it, but do you think Confucius would say that line if he were alive today Yeti?

Watching the River Run
By Kenny Loggins, Jim Messina

If you've been thinking
You're all that you've got,
Then don't feel alone anymore,
'Cause when we're together,
Then you've got a lot,
For I am the river
And you are the shore.

And it goes on and on,
Watching the river run,
Further and further
From things that we've done
Leaving them one by one
And we have just begun
Watching the river run;
List'ning and learning
And yearning;
Run, river, run.

*
smiling here, knowing you are watching the river run....

YOU...are one of the essential keys
  to Life.
Think about it.

I really love this poem, especially the beginning, about the keys.. It seems so surreal to me, and I can't explain why.

You have the greatest common sense m'yeti.

and I'm remembering a quote that said, something like, for every key, a worry.

I can't validate that though, through evidence.

The hubby ruins carseats with that mass of keys jangling from his belt.

He doesn't look particularly worried about much either.

It used to annoy the hell outta me, until I realized, it wss like putting a bell on a cat that seems to take particular pleasure in startle-art.

That's right, I can hear him coming a mile away.

(Bet you didn't see THAT one coming, huh?)

And btw? Tonight's a good night to clean the keys...

Enjoyed.

Hiya Ed.  Read this days ago but didn't make the time, at the time, to reply.  Anyway, I thought then that this poem, these images, are going to remain among my favorites for a long time (or at least till the last few brain cells go).
This, is how I want to write...

I think I've said it before.  you have the uncanny ability/talent to take such unimportant topics and give them such incredible meaning.  I value your style and your refreshing approach.  I look forward, when I scroll the pages, for your posts.  I know they are delicious!  You are true genius in this bit of writing we all engage in.

Great write!
