Another Home
By Larry Chadwick
Credit to Ron Carnell for the closing quote

We moved often,
I’ve been all over the place.
Twenty-one homes in nineteen years,
It was a grueling pace.

Amazing in all of that,
I only attended two schools.
There weren’t that many places,
That educated fools.

Five years here,
And then five years there.
Every time we moved,
My mom would say a prayer.

I teased my dad about it,
At their anniversary party.
Now I watch the video,
I hurt him being such a smarty.

I lived under one roof,
For more than seven years.
Dad said I ought to move,
My stability was causing him some fears.

I lived in so many states,
It was hard to identify my home.
We had been so busy,
Constantly on the roam.

But grandma bought her place,
Way back in 1942.
I like that fact,
And we still have it too.

So at 25 it dawned on me,
I finally knew where home was at.
It was up at grandma’s ranch,
That was always my special habitat.

My kids are raised,
They have moved on.
And I was wondering,
Where my home had gone.

Today it finally dawned on me,
There is a place that is:

“A home without a wall,
Our haven without ends,
A circle we all call
Our Family of Friends!”

September 17, 2004

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Larry, you and Ron should do a duet more often! lol

I too, was a mover ~ and a shaker!
I attended 11 schools for my formal education and lived in 13 different houses during that time.

I was always the "New Kid On the Block"! It forced me to be out-going and to make friends easily. There is always some good coming out of things that may be somewhat disconcerting.

Your poem was moving, charming and I enjoyed learning more about you and your family. You are a beautiful human being. It was a pleasure to read your words ~ and Ron's , this fine Fall day!

Love, Light, Hearth & Home!

Now this is why you are so loved in this family see?  Glad you found a permanent residence.  By the way, read Ed's poem about his keys, and maybe you two could go into the windchime business

Congratulations Larry

Well Larry...1942 was a good year to find a home.  That was when I found mine...my year of birth.  I've wanted to leave a few times, but dang that is just so difficult.  So, I just know, that aside from these blue pages, home is where the heart is.
