_______________________________________________
GOING BY THE NAME OF IVAN

There has been a humbling of Spirit.....
a swallowing of pride.....
a coming together of strangers
as one

People who lived next door or down the street
but didn't meet
have become friends.....
helping each other

Strangers from all over the country and Canada
have united to help us.....
in a time when we couldn't
help ourselves

Bringing us necessities of life......
of food, water, ice.....
The basics that I took for granted
and was never without before

We all seem to feel a lump in our throats....
a fullness of heart.....
when we think about this past week...
this week of humbling

Yes, it has only been a week
since we were humbled
by a ferocious force of nature
going by the name of Ivan........

amazing the forces of nature...was just reading the news about those poor poor folks in Hati...I cannot believe their peril...

God bless all those who have suffered loss from these terrible hurricanes....

Thank you for such a heartfelt write, and those pics, my oh my?  I cannot believe the destruction.

Hugs to you

I for one have always respected and admire nature and it is times like these that remind us just how powerful she can be.  Glad to know you made it out safe.  Very much enjoyed the read as I am getting treated to it seems many different views on this event through poetry.

Thank you, dear Ethel, for sharing these wise reflections and the pictures  ..... "a humbling of Spirit" ... we think we are invincible at times, but the elements show us how very frail we are.
Love and hugs.

Mother Nature really tore up her yard this time. So glad you are safe! Everytime we encounter such disaster, it seems we're given multiple opportunities to prove where we stand on the ladder of humanity.

Good grief!  I hope you are staying away from Jeanne Ethel?  PDV is already boarded up and ready down there, AGAIN!  I don't know if I would think Paradise was worth all this stress.  Stay safe.

Incredible pictures, Ethel. To many Ivan was just a name on the news...this will show them it was very much more...

We have some incredibly damaging storms here in texas that scare the "you know what" out of you with baseball size hail, straight line winds, twisters, etc. but never have I seen the kind of damage that I have seen over the past 6 weeks, in that area.  My step-son use to live in Pensacola with his father (Navy Chief).  Now our son is with us but his father is still down there.  Luckily he is doing fine.  He couldn't go home to Jackson, MS during any of the Hurricanes because he is on a team dedicated to preparing, helping, and cleaning during and after these storms.  God Bless all of who suffer in that neck of the woods.  Our family's hearts go out to all of you.

Warm wishes for a speedy recovery.
