~*~

The change of season has been a long time coming.
Good-bye to my yellow roses in bloom
and summer sun days down by the seaside.
Those days were the times of my life
and new growth, that colored me new.

Had I only known the loneliness
would have effected my well being in such a way.
Aged by the sun and the warmth I lacked,
simple pleasures I took for granted
are no longer mine.

I all but welcome wool scarves
to wrap around me,
and kid gloves to fit me in and feel you close.
As the days grow shorter
only to grow fonder in the aftermath.

Absent in the twilight
come September and October,
save for the mourning in sleepy dreams
before the sky turns blue
empty in my arms.

Like a timer set to go off,
predictably, at the break of dawn
clouding my coffee
a steady flicker sparks the flames
as scented candles fill the air
melting down in the afterglow.

I shall take each moment as my winter companion
and savor the bittersweetness
lighting my way,
come November and December
crossing my heart to bear.

Bittersweet ~ yet melodious...

I felt your words.

May every season add something special to your life.

What a treat to read.  I sensed this had couple of layers - literal changes in season, and changes in life's seasons - getting older.  I understand and empathize on both levels.  They only constant really is change.  How sweet the melon when it ripens.  How sweet the life when you learn to appreciate it in all of it's nuances and intricacies.  I always enjoy the imagery in your poems.  They are always so visually stimulating and expressive.  So broad is your range of "colors" I am always left breathless with stars in my eyes.  Thank you for always taking me there.

I mourn the passing year, it seems,
I want to fall in season's seams.
I want to sit in deep content
And weigh this passing, what it meant.

Well done!  Ken

A lovely write and a pleasure to read.
Even the symbols of melancholia danced well.

A time for each season, it seems...so beautifully written.

This spoke to my heart with its meloncholy mood - I do not welcome winter, thus I am somewhat ambivilent about Fall, though I do love the Fall season.  Ah well -

I love your use of seasonal change to show your own "season of change"; a melancholy poem that is nonetheless beautifully written and a joy to read. Very powerful imagery too. Well done (kudos and bravos here )

Thank you for indulging me everyone.
But most of all, I thank you for giving me the opportunity
to find the words and post them, with the certainty that I'll not be judged.

Hugs all around and around~
Sincerely~

Lori, seasons come, seasons go dear gal...
and always, always, after the freeze,
comes the thaw...
and then the blooming begins again...

each time that you write dear gal,
you blossom!  Hugs you!

The greatest beauty on earth, is
found in the hearts of those
who love....

Lori,
And we'll be there for each step...

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
