Comes the end of summer’s reign,
Sear of sun and heat’s refrain,
Before the cool of Autumn’s breath,
Heralder of summer’s death.
The winds blow calm at summer's die,
Breathes sweet the lea, beneath azure sky,
On a prairie grand as heaven's vault,
Painted green in earth's exalt.
Leaves stand out in short lived splendor,
A portrait of fall’s painted rendor,
Fresh quilted colors, trees ablaze,
Night steals away the length of days.
Vicissitudes of summer's flight,
Wings of geese at frost's first bite,
Pumpkins ripened on the vine,
While a hunter's moon above does shine,
Over fiery blaze of autumn's glory,
Portending Persophene's purgatory,
Demeter rises from her sleep,
From her awake doth harvest leap,
Cornucopias of fruited plain,
Yield bounties of a farmer's grain,
Verdant valleys, rising mist,
Shield rainbowed flora by Helios kissed,
As a zephyr warms a cooling land,
Last vestige of hot summer's hand.
Farewell to summer, its passions stole,
For in the autumn, soars a mortal soul,
Upon an Autumn wind o’er a Kansas plain,
To view the jewels of gods’ ordain.

I was about to turn the computer off when I saw your name, and knew I might be sorry if I missed whatever it was you posted as this board moves too fast.  I was sure right about that!  My goodness, you certainly painted the most accurate picture of Autumn and fall, I have EVER read.  I was up our mountain today, and I actually saw a similar quilt to the one you wrote about, and it was simply magnificant.  It was a real treat to read this beautiful poem with such perfect meter Tim, thank you.

All you need to do is ask to get the answer.

It does my heart good, Sir, to know I share some of the same sky you do.  Mysteria couldn't have said it better...I was interrupted as I had your poem up in front of me...

but Mysteria said it best.
No one does Kansas like you do.
