His arms grew into a battle cry Wretched men of whittled dreams Grab bags of violent legacy Conclusive Cold aftermath meeting Sunday Highlighter dribbling hope elsewhere Hearing screams When the doors close Caught up in the encounter Pinching my breasts All bubble wrapped with no place to go Dreaming of the Survivor Jackpot Or part of a narrative with echo |

Lee I can hear the words. I wont ever fully understand what it means since I would never suffer it. Dave |

Hi David and thank you for reading and commenting...your thoughts are appreciated Here in Philadelphia, every year, early spring, they do a Race For The Cure...and every year, believe it or not, there are more and more men who come, who are survivors of Breast Cancer???? Believe it. |

Thanks Lee but stomach, kidney, prostrate, bladder and all the other cancers tend to hit as well. I just drink the red wine, eat the veg but the understanding or lack of it was rammed home via my wife's aunt who had the breast and nodes removed recently. Early diagnosis, identification and treatment will give her some more years. For me 70 years will do. dave |

Lee, Oh yes. Those mammograms can be a life saver. I had to smile: When the doors close Caught up in the encounter Pinching my breasts All bubble wrapped with no place to go Dreaming of the Survivor Jackpot Or part of a narrative with echo " Enjoyed your work. I think this is the shortest one I've seen you write, but I like it! miscellanea |

Letters arrive before a doctor's call... "abnormal"..."please come in for a repeat examination..." denial fights with fear, the battle goes on... phones dialed, holds placed, music drones, fear begins to win that no one will win... Nurse comes on..."it's just a spot, nothing to worry about..." [is it her body?] "Come back in, in six months for a repeat checkup...don't worry..." twice said, twice hit... don't worry. Time flies, but months drag. |

Breast Cancer ~ the very thought of it sends shivers through my own! My grandmother died of it. It is my understanding that since she was my father's mother, it is less likely that I would contract breast cancer than if it had been my maternal grandmother. Regardless of the genetics, we all are at some degree of risk by mere virtue of the fact that we are inundated with herbicides, pesticides, dyes, hormones, toxic waste...the death list goes on! I hear ya, Lee! Your voice is always one I like to hear! ~ May your physical health be as healthy as is your mind! ![]() ![]() Linda |

While I can't identify exactly with your words (given my gender); as a healthcare worker for 14 years, I can definitely understand, appreciate and enjoy the sentiment and emotion of this piece. Very well done. - Jeff |

I've been there, not a pleasant experience though one with a happy ending....still it's different for a man I'm sure. The implications less threatening and less personal in important ways. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> ______________Ratleader______________ |

Impressive write .... and it reminds me of the ongoing battle with my gynacologist! He is pro and I am contra. With all the doubts of course that rise in such cases! Love, Margherita |
