Listening to every heart

Do you know rain?

Is rain from above something that simply
spoiled your day of a planned picnic,
or a deluge that dampened your spirits
because for a brief time, the sun disappeared?

Did you wax the car and now, cannot show it off
for fear of spots?

Or is it more?

Do you see it as a washing of air,
clearing away smoke from eyes, or as
a last clinging to stems
before absorbed by earth,
as if it were a heavy tear
being pulled unwillingly
by gravity…

do you feel its weight in your heart?

Do you see the drops dance in puddles,
looking long and hard behind the romance of it all,
embracing this moment of quiet solitude,
turning to yours, saying,
“this is our moment of quiet”
as the tapping resonates upon the roof,
barely coming to your ear

beneath the morning sheets?

Do you know rain?

Do not see the drizzle as mere drops
that splash your windows after their washing,
but know that somewhere
an angel is crying for joy
as it welcomes home a soul.

Then, you will know rain.

This is beautiful Karilea..absolutely.

I love to watch the rain and when it clears the air for me.

as long as it doesn't come with 150 mile an hour winds, I'm all for it

Rain... giver of life and preventer of forest fires. I love the rain. Although it can stop any time now, it's been raining for almost a month straight. Grr.

Beautiful poem, I've never quite seen rain the way that you described it, I've never really thought about it, but I do love the rain.

Thank you for sharing

Beautiful. It touched my heart.

I think I know rain, and a little bit more about Sunshine , who here in this poem reveals a little more about herself...I am glad she did because I enjoyed it....

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.

It is in these times of rain, that I so wish I had an aluminum roof, so as to witness the classical symphony that is offered...
Sunshine, thank you for this beautiful reminder, of the importance of all things, regardless of what comes, it is all to important and significant...written from a gal who loves to walk in the rain and watch thunderstorms...

Most of the time, I see rain as a cleanser of souls. It purifies our hearts, and clears our minds. Sometimes, it's more a weight in my heart, cuz it seems to symbolise the teardrops that would be falling down my cheeks if I were not controlling hard enough. And sometimes, it's just nothing but a blanket gone wet.

All those in the Pacific Northwest know rain, and it is a great cleanser of streets and minds.  Thank you for celebrating my state activity, walking in the rain.  KJ
