Paycheck

“It’s not going to come today,
       Probably resting in post office
       Lain among papers weight.

Can hardly wait to see my name,
Find the address where I live,
As I look forward to the comfort
That its contents soon will give!”

For eternity it seemed to take
And the fear of bouncing checks
When in innocence I discovered it
Hidden among lower decks!

Ah, the flow of mail…

Credit card come-ons
And offers to derail
Advertisements, pledges,
Hammer hard the sale to nail!
(It’s a wonder I can find anything…)

The funny thing about my check
Though lost for a long, long time,
Was that all that time in great despair
It had been before my eye!

Isn’t that the way of life,
Value hidden before our eyes

Oh, I've been there and done that as well! I was not a happy camper! Fortunately, like yours, my story did have a happy ending!

May our eyes never be covered by blinders that prevent us from seeing the treasures right before our eyes!

I appreciate your ability to turn the mundane into something very interesting! You have a knack for opening the eyes of others.

Loves 'n hugs to you, Missy!

LOL, it's quite the moment, when you feel all the checks you just wrote are turning to rubber, and then suddenly discover they are good as gold.
I could relate to this too easily.

Cathy,
I hate it when that happens! Good thing it showed up.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

you remind, so often of stories...

I once got bombed (on payday of course) and I had cashed the entire thing too.

I woke the next (er...) afternoon and checked my purse and it was NOT there.

(Why do we keep checking, knowing it's not there?)

But anyhow, I'd dropped it as I exited a cab as I arrived home. Still living with my parents at 23--my Dad found it the following morning--IN THE STREET--still in the bank envelope.

He watched me suffer for about two hours before he gave it back to me too.

sigh.

I'm still fairly careless with money, but in different ways these days. Your last line hit home for me, as I often wish and miss my Dad following me around, picking up my loose ends.

Value--right before our eyes.

thank you for the reminder, and for allowing me to tell a story here in your thread.

Yer a doll.

How wonderfully you see beyond an ordinary event.  It's a pity that we don't do that more often because behind reality lies untold worth and beauty.

Whoops!  I just spent 15-20 minutes writing a special response to each of you. As fortune has it, I lost it somehow! Now, I'm called away!  Any way, just wanted everyone to know how special you are.  Have a great week ahead.
