As I walked along a wooded stream whose ripples rock the baby bass to sleep, there floated before my blue-tint eyes a feather blue through bluer skies. And as my view its airy path did trail, I saw a sight that drained my cheeks to pale, for in the branches among leaves of Spring, lay a mother bluebird silent--- with broken wing. And just beneath her, a limb or two, was her nest with babies new. And as her eyes their last sights glimpsed-- the sky above which gave her song, the branch below which was her home, another feather from her fell, past her babies in circle's weave to the stream by shadows cooled, where baby fish quietly sleep 'midst ripples' rocking spell. |
