standing on a shadow's lace

Cattail Sway

I watched as the sun painted a picture
its brush scraped the edge of the water
to where the land lays close and low
and I was mesmerized for a moment
by the sway of brown and green in swirl
the fight of sword leaves in battle
the movement became my breath
a sigh that whispered among the stalks
I settled in as I heard the sound of
my heart in reeds and knew the velvet
in the sight of brown sitting on the tips
of the leaves waiting for the next move

just some words cut out
from the diary of my heart
