Yesterday's Need

There in the streaming light,
I walked towards
and rested my palms on the warmth,
moving the small stones of visitors
to make room for the one I picked out for him.
One of two, that I held during the long ride in thought
to take some of my warmth to transfer.

I stood there reading names of others
(placing my gift to several Uncles)
wondering if they knew that I thought of them,
as I slowly made my way past their monuments
in the quiet of being their only guest.

I wiped as a tear or two came,
unlike that of the sobbing for my sister
an hour before.
There, the vision of our last hours together
had entered my mind
and the standing before a stake in the ground
with her name and date only
and tufts of grass growing wildly
over the dry packed soil,
made it hard to visit with her.

I know she knows what I am left with
and I know the push she has always given
is still inside me, trying to make me
return to myself and be who I was
meant to be.

A heartshaped river stone resting now
among the many others...
I know she knows I am with her
and that she is within my heart,
always.
M

the stake and nameplate are nothing compared to the insignia she has left you with...
this was a tremendous write from the core of your being...lovely

A moving piece Maureen.  Lovely.

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

is still inside me, trying to make me
return to myself and be who I was
meant to be.

That is the way your sister and all whom you visited would want it to be. Along with many others known and not known to you.

Maureen, I find much strength in your poem and a determination, too.  Those ancestors, and of course, your sister, would be proud, I think. It cannot be easy to write the innermost of your feelings, but you do it so well.   ....jo

Beautifully expressed.  My heart to yours, hugs and comfort-

You expressed this very well. But, it is so sad. Hugs, my friend! I hope you are doing ok.

"a heartshaped riverstone" what a great read. This shows a true compassionate nature. Thanks.
