Eyes of God I run and hide amidst the night Looking for a quiet corner to rest But still you follow… I ran swiftly up time formed mountains And ran slowly down eroded hills laced with black lilies, Tripping and rolling to a stop, eyes to the sky And still you follow… The ground dropped beneath me And my arms opened like an eagle--- Freely I glide in the streams of my past Only to be lost in clouds and pity And still you follow… Let me be! I scream, So into the welcoming sea you drop me, Salvation at last! A place where none can follow Alone with my thoughts and self Sinking to darkness and a forever sleep; But still, I see your yellow smile atop the waters surface--- Sadly, it seems you still follow… My mind washes onto a whitened shore, Body fatigued and sober to the new day; Your sister’s light follows me as I walk across the horizon Where death and fear converse with my heart To lie about the “One” that I call “God”; Her warmth for the moment comforts my faith Until doubt once again returns in the eve And in the bottom of my drinking glass I see you still follow… Marcel |
