little girl performs
upon the stage
of others expectations
giving what they need
becoming what they see
but never quite knowing
who she is indeed-

costumed
in her mary janes
and pig tails . . .

trying to please
to tap the dance requested
and sing in perfect pitch
all the while-

her socks fall down
and the ruffles itch
and wouldn’t it be nice
to just exit
stage left?

Rick - thanks for your thoughtful reply- it would be nice, wouldn't it, not to have to perform. That's what's nice about coming to a place like this, where feelings can flow freely

I know exactly how you feel, that perfect pitch in life. Everyone constantly watching to see if you're doing what they expect. In each of your poems I've read You've caught little pieces of my life in a beautiful web. I really can't fathom why or how this is. It just is and I can't help reading more of your works. If only souls could kiss. Innocent kisses of course. Mine to yours and innocent peck on the forehead.

Susan, I would suggest that you stand up and curtsy for a job well done, but then that would be like you being on stage! ~ and that would defeat the purpose of your poem! lol
