Do You Dream In Rhyme? It matters not, I softly sigh As daylight fades and dark draws nigh The time has flown, how can it be Since we lived life in poetry When did I miss the passing years The joy of life, the pain, the tears I dare recall the happenstance That led to this unlikely chance We had a love that’s seldom found Outside of stories leather bound Those nursery rhymes and fairy tales Or poets sonnets known so well We inked our lives on parchment fine And lived the fable, every line Alas as all good stories go The end must come, and this we know No happy ever after lent Its joy to tale, when love was spent And so we parted, “Best of friends” Would seem that’s where our story ends Though sometimes late, on nights like this When slumber comes in dreamy mists And cool winds blow and willows sway I hear your call from worlds away I silence ringing of the phone I lay on silken sheets alone As twinkling stars fill darkened skies In hopes to dream, I shut my eyes I draw the blinds, I dim the light And drawn to you, my soul takes flight I close the space, I bridge the time And wonder, “Do you dream in rhyme?” * Tim, Once more I thank you for your gift of inspiration. I can go months without writing a single thing and then you pop onto these blue pages and my muse just sings. I don't know how you do it or why, but who am I to question inspiration? By the way, can I hire you?? ![]() [This message has been edited by hoot_owl_rn (09-01-2004 06:42 PM).] |

Hoot, Dare to dream the voices say we'd not have it another way. An exceptional write from a talented source, in my book, that makes this, just about perfect. Doc |

Your rhyme dances across the page with great fluidity and grace - lovely. ![]() Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |

He's for hire???? Good gads, he never said a word!!! As far as the question of your poem goes, however, it is strange, that some will dream in color; some in black and white; some in gray... and while I may not dream in rhyme, I do dream in sharing shaded moments, enlightened fractions, and unsayable feelings.... ![]() I am so glad to see you home again, our Ruth! |

In the glare of daytime's light, He sees the pain of sorrow's bite, Without night's cloak, he hears life's pain, Horrors told without explain, It cannot be, this dreadful sin, In the day where he has been, So he journeys to the night, To flee the sear of daytime's light. Why she asks does he return? Because he loathes of daytime's burn, It is within the balm of night, He feels the calm of inner light, For in his muse he finds release, Escape from day, from pain to peace, And as he journeys to afar, He oft will spy a distant star, Who guides him where he needs to be, Away from daylight, 'til he's free, To the place he hopes to find, within the recess of his mind. He thanks the star who guides him so, Who lets him soar to welkin's glow, Who lets him dream in poet's rhyme, As he flees from day's begrime. Do not you see my gentle friend, What it is that I might send, It is not of inspiration, I offer not collaboration, All I have that I might send, Is but a whisper on the wind, Touching not upon your being, Just a breath, of one man's fleeing, Searching, seeking in the night, To bathe in glow of heaven's light, No more to hear life's sad lament, But melodies, from muses sent, A nightingale, to hear her sing, To calm my soul, her feathered wing, To lift aloft with lilting call, To touch me with gods' madrigal. Clear crystal notes of warbling lute, Refreshing breeze forth heaven's flute, Encaptured in night's symphony, Enraptured in her melody, As sweet as song of whippoorwhill, Music from her poet's quill, Sings of splendor, love's extol, With beauty of a poet's soul, So when you feel upon your face, A whispered breath, reveal your grace, Allowing but a mortal being, To end his search, to end his fleeing. Enjoyed this, but to the question, yes at times the rhymes invade my dreams when there is quiet between screams or the mares gallop not that night where there are glimmers of light, but other time it's just dark wordless and stark. Gloom |

We had a love that’s seldom found Outside of stories leather bound Those nursery rhymes and fairy tales Or poets sonnets known so well We inked our lives on parchment fine And lived the fable, every line Alas as all good stories go The end must come, and this we know so very beautiful, yet sad Ruth. This is exceptionally written, well done. Hugs. |

I often wonder what does go on in that dream state. I know color, maybe memories sure, and certainly poetry would be a great way to restore ourselves and wake up inspired. Nice write. |

Thank you all for your kind replies. I may not dream in rhyme, but I often wake with a good idea for a poem so have gotten in the habit of keeping pen and paper on my nightstand just incase inspiration hits me in my sleep ![]() |
