Your laconic smile met my transparent gaze
across the supermarket aisleway.
I responded with a simple straightforward
"Wie geht’s?"

Never one to mince words,
you simply shrugged your broad shoulders
and turned your full attention back
to your favorite pastime:
shoving all the ripe fruit aside,
searching for the firm, not-yet-ready stuff.

And in that very small moment,
you caught sight of your reflection
in the shiny polished weighing basket,
and frowned;
not unlike the frown I wore,
when I cared.

SMACK!  Wow, Kacy -- this one hits home with great metaphors and imagery.  Especially the last line.  Tight and powerful.

The sorrow of lost love finds everyone's SP!  You write of ordinary scenes with uncommon insight.  Always a pleasure to read you.  Ken

Eric, thanks for that reply.

Magnus, thanking you, too It was a begged-to-be-written kind of thing.

Ken, thanking you, for always gifting me with the kindest, most generous reply.
