Watching you sleep
I am struck again
by how much you've changed
and yet how much
you are the same.

Years we haven't spent together
show in the lines of your face,
in the scars and curves
of your still familiar body.
Golden curls have gone
white and grey,
but I know those blue eyes;
how they dance when you smile,
how they laugh when you tease.

The tatoos are new,
but not the way your arms
feel when you hold me close.
And I know that smile,
even if it is hidden now
behind a salt and pepper goatee.

Most familiar of all
is the touch of your hand,
how it stokes my desire
as no one else ever could.
Your tongue at my ear,
your breath on my neck
still make me tremble and sigh,
wanting only more of you.

Watching you sleep
I am overwhelmed
by all that I feel.
I didn't expect it
to be so complete,
for my love to reach deeper
than ever before.
Being here with you now
feels more right
than anything I've ever done.
My heart feels so full
I am almost afraid to breathe.

Watching you sleep
I'm so glad that I came.

Beautifully written.  The imagery was incredibly vivid.  This was an engaging poem to read and appreciate.  You are a gifted poet!  This was such a great pleasure to read.

I know this feeling... and one moment of this is worth the lifetime of struggle it sometimes takes to find it. *S*

I am happy that you should find happiness - and a well penned emotion it is.

  Susan

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.
