As Far As The Ache Will Permit

Through melancholy’s’ impasse I stumble—
—A harlequin of ridicule and umbrage.
Beneath the rasp of boot heel she’s pressed my
heart, propelling it over coarse pavement
the texture of sandpaper. Irregular
rhythm removes the layers that were
affection…rapture. It matters not. I
am deadened to the sensation. I forsook
all for her kiss…though I knew not her lips
were adulterated. How many have
savored them? Would the answer matter?
Presumably not! Why then the deluge
of tears from mine eyes? Questions without answers.
Let them lie where they have dropped for they need
none. ‘Tis but soul searching…the unlatching
of windows though the doors are fastened. Mayhap
one day I will pull back the window coverings
and let in the light…but at the moment
this is as far as the ache will permit.

Remember, if you're not part of the future, you're history!

Would the answer matter?

Depends on how much ache you can hold,
mentally, and otherwise.

Enjoyed, m'friend.

The expression of emotion reaches from the page and touches the heart.  Well written.

A powerful, heartwrenching piece of writing Kevin.  You have such a grasp on classical writing it reminds me of the work of our most revered poets throughout history.  It seems to simply poor out of you onto the pages like a river.  Unparalleled fluidity and imagery on a cinematic scale.  It really is a keeper and another one I won't soon forget.  Keep on writing them gifted friend.

Kevin,

I do believe we have all experienced this on some level and the eloquent way in which you present pain is most admirable . . .
