A curve, not blocked with color, rests within a pale shape of a valley where I lived for many years. The air smells of white willow and Blue Cypress. Smoky Mountain shadows lengthen; no one hears the steel clamps around my legs, I stumble, fall and hold myself beneath red checked kettles that pour out a happy man's tears. He is lifted above me; there was love once, now a bruised shadow lengthens when blue shades that finish lonely, usher in midnight. we make love, until I sigh above a whisper, and reach for the doves no one sees except me. |
