Take It Back

Copyright 2004 by:  Mark V Sheldon

You gave it away with good intention
You trusted that they’d take care of you
What seemed like the truth was all pretention
From day one they always knew

Trickling away your independence
Convenience a high priority
Now you’re a slave through your dependence
Thinking you’re still free

Take it back
It still belongs to you
Take it back
You can stop them if you choose to
Take it back
It’s time to take control
Before it takes its toll
Take it back

Promises echo in the air
And that’s what they’re made of
One at a time your rights stripped bare
Fear replacing love

Your lack of action is their main attraction
Complacency pays its price
If you want it resolved, you must get involved
They’re gambling with your dice

Take it back
It still belongs to you
Take it back
You can stop them if you choose to
Take it back
It’s time to take control
Before it takes its toll
Take it back

Action is stirred when you stand and get heard
Letters and calls can make waves
It’s never too late to begin a debate
And stop digging your own graves

Everyone plays an important role
Change begins with you
What you didn’t give they carefully stole
Enough!  No more!  They’re through!

Take it back
It still belongs to you
Take it back
You can stop them if you choose to
Take it back
It’s time to take control
Before it takes its toll
Take it back

Excellent.  It stirs one to action.  A friend and I were just discussing the averice that drives so many now days in the form of employers and corporations and such.  He made a statement that really hit home-- your average person is afraid to make waves for fear they will lose what little they have.  How sadly that bears on the future of our nation, that the fearless generation is in truth the cowardly lion.  And I understand that fear, for what an unstable world we have come to live in.

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.

MARK,
Well done, "If you want it resolved, you must get involved." and that is the key.

Thank you kindly, Maureen -- enough is enough...

Susan:  That is my sincerest hope with this album -- to stir one (or more) to action.  I know what you mean with the scenario you presented -- it's an altogether too common one, but sometimes, it is that one individual with the courage to stand up and say "no more" that ignites the wildfire of positive change for the rest of the people who can't find that initial bravado within themselves and need a catalyst.  Thank you for your thoughts -- I always enjoy reading them.

Seymour:  A sincere thank you, Sir, and indeed, change begins with action -- either theirs, or ours...

Mark, this is different for you but I really like it.  It would make a good song, too.  And, you are absolutely right!   ....jo

I'll be happy to help you sing those lines!

Hi Jo:  Thank you for your thoughts.  Actually, it's really not at all different for me...  perhaps just in its form.  These things have been within and on my mind for the longest time, and the our world is saturated with these issues.  It's time to make some waves.  We'll see where the music takes us!

Dixie:  That is one of the most satisfying things I could hope to hear -- thank you, and I do indeed hope so!

Hey there, James:  Been a while...  Thank you for your time and consideration.

msflame:  I won't pretend to know it, but I will admit to trying to get to its source...  I figure that I know very little but have strong opinions about everything and don't have a problem in stating my mind.  Thanks for the read.

Hi Karilea:  I thank you for your support.  Inspiration is found where passion is bound.  Buckle in 'cause there's an adventure ahead!

Kacy, my friend, you've been singing them all along, but I could always use some more ripples to get others to sing along...
