A Different Time Below your water lines remain imprints of cattle tracings as they once walked below now what is the edge of you, for years had divested time to wear away the dam once built a hundred years ago, and no one knows, if they do not belong that beneath you comes your life force, from deep underground where your own wells run ever enduring, never dry. But it had been too long since you were filled otherwise, and the cattle lay waiting, panting, dry, thirsty, so we dammed the springs again, to see if they would hold for another hundred years, and there, where the cottonwood took foot, it now bathes in ever-waters for we are truly a flooded plain, a miracle of nature, and your fulfillment this year brought tears from the sky, for life feeds life, for now you hold, once again, new life, where beaver returned, and Coyote stays away from pens to drink at your shores; the red-winged bird swings in delight from reed to reed, calling for more to join this abundance. Now shadows play upon your banks and revel in your face, as turtles and frogs find home again in deeper waters, fox and rabbit even join in prints of deer to drink; and in a different time, there are times, where the touch of man makes things better again. ~*~ Photo, Courtesy, C. and in a different time, there are times, where the touch of man makes things better again. ...and the touch of woman...as just happened here. I miss these places, and for a moment you brought me there again. I used to have such a spring, in the little glen behind my house. My heart's there now, just watching and feeling the presence again. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

Simply awesome and humbling...Yes, there are times...though few...when man's devices bring forth something rare and grand...such as this. Thanx Karilea...I have spent many a moment of leisure on the banks of ponds such as these...though we called them "tanks"... |

"and in a different time, there are times, where the touch of man makes things better again." You are right. Sometimes....and I wish more often. I love the way you think, Sunshine! Not only is this a fantastically written piece, but that photo.....that photo is one of the most beautiful lake scenes I think I've seen. You have captured it only the way a poet could! ....jo |

Sunny This is a good lesson in husbandry...What man has destroyed, man (and woman) can mend But it takes vigilance and work to keep our world in order, especially in the places that we have made dirty by our wallowing...This poem is one of nurturing, of your spirit and those of the animal spirits who will come to the pond edge to live. A gentle poem...enjoyed ---------ice ><> Come read to me some poem, |

If you wrote of nothing but nature and the passing of time, your words would resonate. It is always a lift to read you. KJ Through rubble and trouble and dark of night |

Your words brought the beauty of the pond to life, giving it breath and heart beat. Beautiful. Susan Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |

Martie, thank you so much. My husband, who took the photo, asked today if he could share it with his friends. Who am I to say no? Ericc, I bless the day Ron let us include photography with our poems. I try very hard to make my poems stand alone, but when there is a photo that only "adds to"...well, we are indeed blessed with a poet's and ARTIST's home as well...thank you! Lady, lady, thank you... JL...but isn't poetry life and life, but a poem waiting? LeeJ - bless your amens, with a lot of echoes! Susan, the pond brought the words to me. Look around you...it is all there, waiting for YOUR pen. Startime, there are no words which to thank you for those feelings, only to say, yes. msflame, you are very welcome, and I am very fortunate! kayjay...I think Nature would say "go somewhere else...", as I can be a pest, y'know? I thank you for thinking she can be as patient with me, as I with her! Ford, it is indeed a lesson in husbandry. I have been so very fortunate to learn not only to deal with pasture, and fields of growth, but with animals as well. In fact, you just inspired another poem! And I'm going to have to travel back about 14 years to pull this one out! Bless your heart!!! Marge, ponds were our beginning, figuratively, and literally! Iliana...what can I say? I like the way YOU think, too! Magnus, I stand very respectful of nature. She [or he, for the guys] is one awesome force. I have been where one can see the storms rise, from miles away...and in moments, they are upon you! I have been where they start, and pass over, and wreck devastation! There will never be enough words to commit to Nature...or enough emotions to get through the aftermath. But if one has spirit...that very spirit will match her/him, step for step! Yes, P.S., when it's the real thing... marcel...it was cloudy here when I wrote it. Isn't imagination and memory wonderful? Rat...you couldn't have given a nicer comment. Bless your heart. |
