Tears of St. Lawrence Stretched out on my backyard porch Night has soothed the August scorch No sound intrudes this quiet time Nor light disturbs the night starshine Blanket wrapped repose belies My eager gaze to Titan skies Forcing patience I await the flooding of the spatial gate Timid they arrive at first Streaking then in cosmic burst Emeralds and azure blues Golden whites with crimson hues Would that I could stay right here counting each as they appear But though I try, I can't resist the sandman tug to sleep persists Dreaming til the dawning hour Carried on the Perseid Shower ~ The Perseid metor shower is here again, I finally got to see it- beautiful! Margherita, from what I understand the shower will be ocurring most of the week, it is just most active on the Wednesday and Thursday. I do hope you can catch a glimpse and share the thrill. Thank you LeeJ.... ah geeez I actually picked up my pen and smelled it(mmmmm Oreos)LOL. Then again, I'm one of those people who try to lick their elbows when they say it can't be done. So pleased you enjoyed, Thank you. Forgot to mention in the original post that the Perseid shower is also known as The Tears of St. Lawrence, named after him when it occurred during a festival in his honor- hence the title. Just a little clarification for the curious :P |

Thank you for posting this, Pell...I went out last night looking to see it, but there was nothing and not much sky visible because of cloud cover. I was hoping that someone would paint it in a poem, and you did! |

Pell, I'm so glad I caught your post! My father and I used to stay up late at night to watch for meteors when I was a child. Now it is a tradition with my family. Every 12th (this year, it will be the 15th of August), we camp at the beach of a state park along with other stargazers. It is a fun night of watching movies about the universe in the pavillion, listening to folktales about the constellations around the campfire, and visits to all the other gazers and their computer programmed telescopes. It's a totally amazing event whether or not the skies are clear. HOpefully, they will be clear. A few years ago, in December I think, I woke my family up to watch a meteor shower such that I've never seen the like before. I counted over 500 meteors in about 2 hours time. Nothing like it! This brought back an exceptional night to me. Thank you very much. miscellanea |

Copperbell, Hehe there IS a Perseid aurora though I've never seen it. We do see northern lights at my latitude, but it is rare. Thank you, glad you enjoyed. Martie, Hoping the clouds give you a break tonight. Pleased you liked my sketch, thank you. miscellanea, What a terrific memory, I'd love to do something like that! Sounds like you will do it again this year? Hope it's a blast! Thanks for sharing your great story Magnus, Ah yeah, the getting up part was a bit tough this morning, but sooo worth it.
