It growls the beast
shrouded in a fog
in the old city
it stalks its prey

Its howl is the death call
in the hearts of the weak
an end to innocence
to a bloody end met

where is the beast
it fades in the light
yet it remains
hunting the old and frail

Its form, youth and fear
strikes terror to the hearts
every footstep a new fear
a heartbeat less to the end

its claws sharp
cut the night
and the innocent throat
spilt blood irreplacable

The deep shadows
signal its coming
its playfields
the old night

From the past it walks
old belief reborn
in the lonely stillness
in the eye of the mind

do not fear the beast
for there is no beast to fear
Fear the beast
for it is on you

"Prophet!" said I, "thing of evil!- prophet still, if bird or devil!-
Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted-
On this home by horror haunted- tell me truly, I implore-
Is there- is there balm in Gilead?- tell me- tell me, I implore!"
Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore."

wow
your imagery in this one is chilling
very well expressed...
the beast can be taken as so many things...
representing the fear and evil that lives in us all ...
if we allow it to do so...
that is how I read this poem...
its one of those poems that makes the reader think...
which is always a good thing...
so how did you get to be so wise any way *smile*

I think I could need - this in my life
I think I'm just scared - that I know too much
I can't relate and that's a problem
I'm feeling ...
If you're gone - maybe it's time to go home
There's an awful lot of breathing room
But I can hardly move
If you're gone - baby you need to come home
cuz there's a little bit of something me...
In everything in you.

A very impressive poem.  I like the vivid imagery in this one.  To me, it looked like some monster running around in a ruined city.

Sweet imagery!!!

Imagery, imagery, imagery...so very well you capture it...always! The beast...so many things it can be...
for me...look inside and see what there is to see!
I enjoyed this wonderful morning read.

I think your talking about me here. haha
A great read thanks.

Joel.

I howl a mournful song, that echos within my chambered heart, for all to read? nay for all to feel.
