The shadows sing
songs of sweet serenade
Weaving in and out of time
Looking in upon my clouded eyes
And when so much is at stake,
how many lies can I tell?
how many smiles can I fake?
My heart betrays me,
beating and screaming its will
Even in silence the cries ring out
Haunting with its repetative tears,
frozen upon the cheeks of my face
As I look up into the night sky,
the moonlight piercing deep into my eyes
Reading the plea inside them,
the silent prayer
that pride kept captive
and fear taunted
with sticks and stones

And oh, how it grows...

"The dark weight of the hour
humming madly
filling my head
with blood
and sorrow
and dread
the executioner's song."
-Jewel

loved the depth in this.
take care,jm

Now for me some words come easy
But I know that they don't mean that much
Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch
You never knew what I loved in you
I don't know what you loved in me
Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be

This poem is breathtaking! The depth of this piece is amazing...and the feelings you portray hit home as your imagery reaches out and grabs me!

i really love the way you've put your heart out on the page...the best poetry is what spills directly from our hearts and souls out onto the page without the manipulation of the mind...such anguish and fear...beautifully written...

Yes, how many smiles can we fake? To many smiling faces lie. And why? Maby because it`s so much easier than crying. As John Lennon said; "Nobody loves you when you`re down and out, everybody loves you when you`re six foot in the ground". And isn`t it true?

My reason? Because I don't want them to know. I've been there before...and we fought everyday...I had to take pills that didn't work...complain every wednesday to a psychiatrist that charged too much...and constantly watched by people to make sure I didn't throw myself down the stairs or something. I won't ever let that happen again. I don't trust people with my heart...I've become far too independent for that. But I do see your point.

Thank you both very much for replying.

               Yours truly,
                 Angel
