Whitechapel Sliding quietly From shadow to shadow Hidden by the fog Footsteps echoing On damp cobblestones She staggers drunkenly Giggling to herself Brushing back unkempt hair Looking for a man To buy her next drink Watching her from the dark He begins to follow A gloved hand in his pocket Seeking her company To satisfy his need She turns and sees him Another lonely man Wanting her services She beckons to him Stumbling into the alley He follows her there Gloved hand leaving the pocket Sees her shabby clothing Smells her drunken breath And the rage comes again Showing her best smile Pulling him closer Swaying back and forth Winking with glazed eyes "Would you buy a lady a drink?" A cold smile on his face "Good evening madam" "Allow me to introduce myself" Glint of silver in his hand "My name is Jack" © 10/31/98 Gary Pence Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night. -Edgar Allen Poe |

excellent..I know where this is going... superb detail in this ...im sure we will hear more from "jack" if history is to repeat in this poetry... nice work jm Now for me some words come easy But I know that they don't mean that much Compared with the things that are said when lovers touch You never knew what I loved in you I don't know what you loved in me Maybe the picture of somebody you were hoping I might be jackson browne |

...if at all possible to have a favorite killer... Mine would have to, with out a doubt, be Jack the Ripper... The way your words paint the images in the mind is grand... Many thanks for a vibrant read!! There is an alter ego which dwells in every soul... a-alibaster |

Thank you everyone! I must admit to having a facination with Jack The Ripper. Not sure why, maybe because it's still such a mystery. Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night. -Edgar Allen Poe |

Thank you Aiden! This poem was my Halloween offering for 1998. I try to do one every year. I'm not a great history buff, but the story of Jack The Ripper has always facinated me. Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night. -Edgar Allen Poe |

Jack lives here!! HA HA I find it fascinating too, along with some early american legends, american history and aussie history. Awaiting part 2 please? May the world hug you today, With it's warmth and love. I pray it whispers a joyful tune in your heart, That tell you there is a friend sitting in another corner of the world, Wishing you well and wishing you love...... ~Isis~ (Goddess - Sovereign of the Spirit) |
