The day begins I feel its colors: Cardinal red Cyan blue Look, here's a mirror Who are you? The lips, they've lied (white) lies The eyes, espresso brown There you are: you turn around An icy figurine-- Silvery streams Drip through your veins But it's always the same; I keep to myself You're the fortunate one-- Afternoon's golden yellow but Gunmetal gray is this realm Lost in thought: Cheeks now flush A deep shade of ruby (don't feel so guilty) No one knows What I'm thinking about So let's just leave it At that You seem to think it strange That I possess no gold; It's not alive, doesn't dream And far too cold to hold Now two cabochons sparkle at me: There are your eyes; What do they see? Is it still what made Your heart race before? Tell me Before I close this door Unknowable- you deem me so So the depth between us grows My smile here? It's all illusion What's behind it's Bitter confusion Before me here you cast the pearls Of flight-or-fight decisions While I cast upon the snows Tears and hard earned wisdom That I should've used So long ago. If you pretend you might still care Don't worry so, I'll be aware You're coming and going Emotionally I look askance At your integrity I hide at length But you do not seek It hurts so much I do not speak But if you care to look You should see Me, hiding in fields Of varying greens In the sky at night In lustrous moonbeams In trees and their leaves And in shimmering seas, Look for the colors And there I will be -- 2/95 |
