They had to demolish the building that once stood proudly as a monument to compassion at the corner of Main and Commerce. Neighbors had complained of a stench so thick with poverty that they could keep their drugs down. Children had taken to booby-trapping cadavers with dynamite and feces making the brightest part of Sheriff Jack's day somewhat bleak. As part of his Mayoral campaign he promised to rid the community of this last reminder of it's humbled past. Nine months to the day of his landslide election the city gave birth to an erection of unparalleled proportions. Scraping the sky at nearly 9 miles high and already filled to capacity 'The Building of the Future' had been fully realized! 100,000 single dwelling units, housing 100,000 well-heeled students, each paying 100,000 dollars a year for the privilege of occupying a place in history. ------------------ J.
