There was a valley here
lost in secular dust.
The worms are squirming
in ancient dirt, still feeding
on what they fed on
a thousand years ago.

I'm sitting on a stone
here
to write this poem,
not because it is one,
but
because it could be.

Or, is it a passing thought?
A twisted lullaby, or
a haunting memory stuck in the ink.
I shed a single tear speckled with aversion,
marking this place with my scent.
For one day another poet
may find my words in
shattered sections, not understanding
what it meant.

The whole poem is wonderful, but that verse is truly amazing! Beautiful form, clear, nothing wasted or out of place in any way. Perfect!
