Fire in the Heart

When from heart of man does stem
the cadence of most lonely drone;
and solace — that glow of rarest gem —
in vain will comfort hardened stone...

Then solace leaves — and in defeat
heart’s engine will board up the room
and listen only to its beat —
that mournful dirge of fated doom...

No fire now remains —  smolder
will not ashes from once fiery past
that had grown so cold; then colder —
— till perished in a frigid blast.

Oh, Fate, what pages must be written
and what deeds must one endure
to thaw a heart frost-bitten —
where shall the patient seek a cure?

Only True Love follows healing chart
and cloaked unseen walks among men
— but it’s the unfeigned, sincere heart
that bids True Love into its den.

Let hope not fade nor dwindle;
nor let despair cry out in vain —
for one day She will kindle
— the Fire in his Heart again.

CG, I sure am glad that this was bumped back to
the top. I may have missed it otherwise. I am
a hopeless romantic, by the way. Very good writing, Sir.

Absolutely beautiful.  Your words capture the very essence of love and romance.
