Perpetual Moths How oddly appropriate it seems that you chose Autumn with its crisp change of dress and brisk blue air to come back into my life. 20 autumns have come and gone since last I heard from you, yet speaking with you now feels as comfortable as slipping into a worn winter sweater. There is no awkwardness one might expect after so many years of silence; no quiet hesitation, no shy reserve to stop my words that still seem to delight you. We who knew each other well are no less familiar now; you recognize the subtle change my breathing makes when I blush while I still listen past your inuendo. Perhaps what has surprised me most after all the twists and turns our lives have taken, after all the miles and circumstances that have grown like oceans between us, We are still drawn invariably together. Like those perpetual moths to that eternally damning flame, we cannot seem to break our fascination with each other. Long ago I promised myself I would never be vulnerable to you again, but when I hear you smiling on the other end of the phone I feel my resolve begin to melt. I can't resist the sound of your voice- no matter how changed or far away, it still can stop my heart mid-beat. And when I finally catch my breath, I know it will always be that way. So now it has come to this; stolen moments on the phone, hours given over to giving in while a good safe distance apart. We're only talking, after all.... But what if the distance wasn't safe? How committed would we be, each to our own lives? Would we cross that ocean of time and circumstance into each other's arms again? 10/7/03 |

would we? could we? should we? if you dont want to wonder, stop it right now, just my humble opinion nicely done poetry; it flowed in its verse |

Long ago, Sunshine dubbed me the "queen moth"... you had me from the title on. you recognize the subtle change my breathing makes when I blush while I still listen past your inuendo. I just loved those lines of personification. exceptional write of expression and confession. ... and it's you ... you ... you ... you ... the light changes when you're in the room. M.B. |

So Close to home here too. I want to save this one if I might. Lots of good feeling stuff here. "We are still drawn invariably together. Beautiful write...often, as I've aged, wondered (dreamed some too) what it would be like to run into my high school sweetheart. I guess we all do at some time or other. Maybe it could be like this (but I'm a married man so - no, it couldn't - I wouldn't let it). But still one has to wonder... great piece, my friend. jwesley |

I love this, Beki and this part....... but when I hear you smiling on the other end of the phone is so true...I can hear my Honey_love smile over the phone. And this part I really relate to, also...... I can't resist the sound of your voice- no matter how changed or far away, it still can stop my heart mid-beat. And when I finally catch my breath, I know it will always be that way. I'm so glad that you decided to come back, Beki. Hugs, Ethel |

This is the first poem I wrote when my high school/college sweetheart came back into my life last summer - he has been a steady stream of inspiration since. I have not seen him yet, we live 1500 miles apart but we have plans to meet for a few days this summer and I can't wait to see what poety comes out of that. Thank you all for reading and foryour warm welcome back.....I think I will be staying awhile |

How oddly appropriate it seems that you chose Autumn with its crisp change of dress and brisk blue air to come back into my life. Love the opening lines What are you my god? You touch me like you are my god |
