Orange Light District (Co-Titled "Please Offer These Songs To The Elderly And Handicapped) By: Noah Eaton 4/25/04 An old guitarist sits there, by the telephone booth, pleas to a young college student, "Please offer these songs, to the elderly and handicapped" TURN AWAY, my child, from the orange light district, where ebony moths suckle at arsenic lampposts, where the lambs aren't sheared, there's nothing they can give to you there... And the protest babies are gravid, with blood-eyed sympathy, cause their parents used to be like them, but then somewhere along the way, before the skirmish could become peremptory, it backfired with deception, just tell me, how many more wars, are you going to support?" Come one, come all, out of this orange light district, come one, come all, out of this orange light district... Gerrymanders invoke their ghost dances, with their scapegrace wands, staring down from a tenement window, a brother tells his sister, "Please offer these songs, to the elderly and handicapped" RUN AWAY, my sister, here we're treated like heretics, don't scare at the screen, it's bad, and not only for your eyes... And the ghostwriter wins the Caldecott Award, amidst the diesel amber of the city, but will never have a shot at the Hans Andersen medal, for like you, they can see, somewhere along the way, truth isn't served with a cheese grater, and the children, the children will keep asking, How many wars, are you going to support?" Come one, come all, out of this orange light district, come one, come all, out of this orange light district... Come one, come all, out of this orange light district, come one, come all, out of this orange light district... . . . . . . WE'RE ALL TREATED LIKE HERETICS (and the truth is an exiled troglodyte), WE'RE ALL TREATED LIKE HERETICS (and the truth is an exiled troglodyte), WE'RE ALL TREATED LIKE HERETICS, thrown out of the simple creed, and their impulse came only out of fear, their impulse came only out of fear... Once they unleash the lion, how many tears will it require, to tame it? . . . . . HOW MANY WARS, are you going to support... . . . HOW MANY WARS, are you going to support... . . . Come one, come all, out of this orange light district, come one, come all, out of this orange light district... Come one, come all, out of this orange light district, come one, come all, out of this orange light district... . . . . . . Sister Mary sits there, after Mass Sunday morning, to the little girl in front, and she says, "Please offer these songs, to the elderly and handicapped" . . . "You'll find something that's enough to keep you But if the bright lights don't receive you You should turn yourself around and come back home" MB20 |

Noah, God bless you for caring for those less fortunate... for speaking out against that which is wrong. |

Noah, the following passages were so memorable, that they bared repeating: ~ "where ebony moths suckle at arsenic lampposts," ~ "And the protest babies are gravid, with blood-eyed sympathy," ~ "truth isn't served with a cheese grater" ~ "Once they unleash the lion, how many tears will it require, to tame it?" ~indeed! how many? Noah, you are a phenomemally gifted poet and songwriter ~with an equally phenomenal loving and caring heart! Love, Your friend, Linda |
