I cried out to my lover-- And she answered me with thunder. Her lightening rips the sky in half As it tears asunder the darkness. The lightening cries out Like a creature in distress. People have lightening. You see it in their eyes right before you CRUSH them. Their eyes flash just before they turn into an Animal. After that comes the thunder. When they fall, it's a rolling thunder, But sometimes, If you are close enough to the flash, It Claps. The thunder claps when they prefer Instead of falling, The beast in them lashes out. Counterattack. The rain pain falls from the sky. It falls in sheets-- Ripping the ground open. Torrential, Stinging rain. You only think it's water. The Earth is crying out as the storm Lashes out with its fierce fingers-- Burning the ground with its lightening flash. Ask Merlin about the Dragon. He understood. To see the whole beast would consume you in Flames. Yet the storm sill cries out. She cries out to her brother, Night. Answer, Night, Answer. She is calling your name. I answer. Do you? I dare you to answer her. She is like the Dragon. She answers with fire. Have you been burned? Have you ever reached out and made love to a Lightening Bolt? THE FIRE!! She is like an unfaithful lover Who ravages your body and leaves you Begging for more... Only to move on... To rain on someone else. Reach up. Raise your hands to the sky and cry out to her. Cry out and beg for her touch. She will burn you, And you will beg for more. I know. I have ridden the storm. ------------------------------------ As a side note, this poem was written outside of a coffeehouse in Tallahassee, Fl called "The Epitome", in which it was first read. It was about 7:15pm and the sun had almost set. The sky was clear above, but in the distance you could see the frontal system on the way. A line of black clouds was approaching from the East. The heat of the street contrasted with the cold wind from the storm system and the smell of ozone in the air raised some primal emotion in me that I have very rarely been able to tap. Those who have ridden the storm will understand. I believe the most important component of a poem is rhythm. Rhythm is the heartbeat of a poem. It is what makes poetry poetry. |
