Spiritual Fathers Are We

Spiritual Fathers are We

Yet, am I not the same Father?

A father to the children I have brought forth,
and are they not the same -
wild, impetuous,
listening when they have need,
forgetting when they think they need not -
often forgetting from whence they came.

And are We not the same,
aloofly loving,
asking them to have faith,
to believe their every need will be met,
to reach out knowing their hand will be held,
spiritually.

Spiritual Fathers are We.

One to children He cannot hug,
nor impart the warmth of flesh
touching flesh.

One whose words are just memories
on the pages of a book
fostering the fear that comes
with everlasting death.

And I, the product of flesh on flesh,
planting the knowledge of carnate years
imbuing the spirit of my belief,
further enhancing those fears.

Are we not the same, Father?

Are we not the same?

Then why do I keep turning
to you.
