Moved from a shack to a barn

And so it goes
That when you are young
Time stretches out in front of you, vast

And within that vastness
Are all the days of your life

Days, sorrowful and joyful
Your last day, too, is there before you

As well as that day you’ll turn away
From the few that remain
To look behind at the lions’ share, already lived
And how they were spent

Strings of days now trail away from you
Threaded with the continuity of commonality

One, a long string of schooldays and another
Of the time spent making your living

There may even be lengths of empty days
As unrealized as if they’d not been lived at all

But poetry is easiest found in the singular days

The ones that began, ordinarily enough
Then, found you standing at Galileo’s elbow
Ready to search out the nearly-forgotten gods

The two of you anxious for the Sun
To pull the horizon up over his head
And take his slumber

Or the days that ended with the hot, sure weight
Of a newly discovered woman, freshly loved
Sleeping peacefully in the gravity of your bed

And you, your hands, your mouth
Traveling across her own night skies, in hopes
Of beginning, yet another, singular day

It occurs to me that these are the days that keep us going, when it would be easier to simply roll over and go back to sleep.  A write I understand and appreciate much Ed.

Yup, another day in paradise Ed.  Those singular days are the ones that push me ahead to the next in some curiousity if nothing else.  I was missing your mind yanno?  Take care Yeti and dog.

A wonderful insight.  These are the best days.

and singular moments...

(during bad spells I take it by moment by moment--day by day is just too hard sometimes)

but yes, it's in that here now, we find the poetry, maybe because we ARE the poetry.
