Harsh, the weathering of youth as
time treads a path only it knows,
weathering the face,  wrinkling
hands no longer steady as the rock
that once lived.

So spontaneous the youth of years
past, living dangerously as if one
had the lives of a cat...spurred on
in a blaze of hormones, looking
incessantly for that first time...
A time that would be remembered
as though yesterday was just passing
into today on feathered wings.

I walk now, the spring of step somewhat
cautious.  The yearn an ember which
occasionally glows and bursts into a small
but enduring flame.  A flame far removed
from the raging blaze of then.  Then, when
a boy's eyes grew wide, when a blush
sometimes captured one’s face and whispered
thoughts became giggles or mock bravado
in the art of love’s bluff...before a first ever
became “then”.

Miles of waters have slowly, serenely flowed
beneath the wooden bridge of my soul.  A creak
and groan reminding me of my years...

If only the worn, smooth rail might let my hand go.
Perhaps then the spring might return as the
yearn of youth dances a waltz into the night of
times when just the peaceful humming of a fan
takes one to sleep....to dreams of then, when
youth had the yearn and the flames towered
high above...but that was yesterday...

Thanks Nancy, it was back then when WS was
so enchanting to me...a fragrance one never
forgets when combined with smooth skin and
soft silken hair...got me thinking now...

Bravo, bravo.  You captured the essence of aging yet never quite leaving your youth so very well.  Most impressed . . .

Has anyone ever told you that you are a poet's poet? Well, I am doing so right now!

Your face may weather with time, however, your spirit shall be that of forever Spring...
