For they are not a toy

Think twice before you speak
No wiser counsel given
For what is said
Cannot be unsaid
And burns deeply as a brand

So hold your darted tongue
Let the poison drip unstung
For the bite of spite
Tears the heart
And leaves holes gaping

Watch your wicked words
That they dare not escape
That you may wake upon the morn
Soul still intact
And “regret” being a word you need not suffer from

I work in a small office and sometimes I am amazed at the words so carelessly tossed about, as if they were nothing more than a bit of sound, harmless, and soon forgotten.
