The Longest Year Written on September 11th, 2002 In honor of those who fell that bitter September morn' Time binds the grievous tear with freedom still this morning clear. Steadfast hold to our treasured life beyond the fear of terror's strife. With heads held high we march the field with Patriot heroes who refused to yield to honor those who fell that morn' with dragon's breath in justice borne. We stand united in our brethren's cry for fire's resolve in your thundering sky. This solemn mile of war torn road we grievously carry the mournful load. But, mistake not the lamenting free for victory's report to the enemy. For, while we mourne the hero's soul Retribution's bell does soundly toll. Copyright, Kevin V. Kevo, I applaud your tribute for all those lost. Many times I've thought about writing something and the emotions overwhelme me for my daughter was living in Manhattan at the time and it brings back that sense of unknowing about her welfare; really overwhelmes me. She, thank God, was unharmed physically as she was blocks away, but when I visited her there the following Spring, I could still smell the destruction and death in the air, something I will never forget. |

It hurts to remember that day in history, but then I guess it has to in order to understand today and what is going on. Nice remembering of a day so sad. |

Hello Kevo...let me repay your kindness by saying I thorouly enjoyed this post. I do not often come into pipTalk these days but when I do I enjoy reading other peoples work. It reaffirms my own poetry...in a way that is unexplainable. This is a very creative piece. The rhyme structure is sound. A wonderful tribute to our fallen bretheren. Well dodne my friend and I look forward to reading more of your work. Remember, if you're not part of the future, you're history! |
