What It Is That Remains

please do not tell me
how I think and feel
maybe for you it was
over after the thrill
but I find myself standing
beneath darkness’s light
and in aching breath
pushed against too tight
when does salt dissolve
after each tear’s turn
there was a sacrifice
ignited where I still burn
match heart a fire was lit
what now remains
is just me consumed
no ash, just pain’s flames

painful poetry here - you paint a vivid picture of how powerfully fires can burn - Paul

Oh my....this aches!
Excellent write Helen.
Hugs~

Something tugs at me, I've no doubt of that.
Something from the sea, whichever one I'm near.
When I stray too far from beachland, it calls me back
