Moved from a shack to a barn

There you are, one New Years’ Eve
slow dancing with a girl named Heidi

Heidi, tall and solid
blond and pigtailed
the very picture of Heidiness

You can smell the Alps
and its untrodden snow
in the hollow of her throat

And feel the joining of her thighs
pressing warmly into your leg
your hands, resting on the flair of her hips

As you dance through the decay of days
she runs a hand over your years
wondering what might lie beneath the dust

And is intrigued by the prospects

But you see in the crisp blue of her eyes
an Alpine sky, newly minted
and a clock approaching midnight

A reminder of your date with Bridget
also blond, also young
just not as “new” but, used to your ways

So, you leave Heidi standing in the confetti
of possibility that another man
another time, will have to age her

And you go to the bar down the street
where Bridget will soon announce “Last Call”
and take you home

Where she will polish your patina
not exactly erasing your years
but rather, making them shine

Is it the "low carb thang" that makes your brain so sharp or what Yeti?  This line I absolutely loved, by the way,
just not as “new” but, used to your ways
This is the story of my life actually     Great Ed, and Happy Father's Day to you too.

Great poem.  Loved it.  Had me from word one.  Reading it like I couldn't wait to "see" the ending.  It was a cool, cool piece of work.
