Hope When he smiles, it’s of the sunrise and he needs no piper’s music to make children follow. I was drawn, like all the others by a magnetism I cannot describe. He understood, broke down the barriers and encouraged the impossible, most of all, he was friend. I cannot say how to hold him for, even now, palms are plain, though I’ve strived to find that happiness that boundless, beautiful dream, the kind that gulps the air with eyes closed and believes in the unseen. I used to roll the moon’s eye in my hand with larger than life wings, outstretched. I used to taste the sweet purity the restless play and guise of youth knitting his voice into my skin wool soft with fantasy with satin sounds of wedding gown and princely kiss. You can nod your head in appreciation in that long forgotten sigh of sympathy and reclaimed innocence but, you cannot possibly delve into my dimensions into my common, though solitary childhood croquis. You might say that 'he' is everything and nothing all at once to a child, beguiled and wild; That 'he' only exists when faith and imagination twine but, then comes the passing of time of little girl lost, of 'he' – the hope. The moon weaves his wrinkle scar laughter across my broken brow, I walk against the wind, the rebel throwing caution with a frozen tear. I am inept, survivor, seeker, martyr caging passion in delusion fighting my own plight in crippled cocoon that could still fly a miracle, a bargain of fate. Where is that fervor? Where is the love that I have longed to find? The Friendly Giant, Hercules, Mr. Dressup – they’re all gone, so is Superman. And I’ll never know the knowing of where I’m going because fairytales are too promising, reality unkind. And, I still haven’t learned how to say goodbye to let 'him' go though the funeral is tomorrow. Emotionally I KNOW that Canada is the best country in the world! |

Malissa An aching honesty in this, also beauty. You have a gift of writing the inner emotive feel of how you are, that is special. I'm glad to see you back here with your poetry...I've missed you. |
