Nostalgia There it was, right before my eyes... Soap on a Rope! Thought that tradition went out in the 50’s or 60’s, but there it was. Not only was it there, the rope was a short loop not one to hang around the neck. That might be good, no mixed message there, maybe telling Dad to “Hang one on,” for Father’s Day. In large, bold letters its intended recipient, “Dad,” was embossed in blue on its face. Hang it from the shower head; smart idea. Maybe. Won’t wash down the drain quite so quickly. It’s the thought that counts; right? Make Dad think it’s the 50’s again and youth is in his pocket, don’t knock it; hang it on a hook in Dad’s private bath. Let him be “King” of his castle for a day, anyway. ©June 19, 2004 Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

Soap on a rope; Old Spice; cufflinks; ties... oh my. I think my Dad was more impressed with a good hearty breakfast...or new tools. Enjoyed, Virginia! |
