What We're Told

Copyright 2004 by:  Mark V Sheldon

What we’re told
Is getting old
Open your eyes
And let the truth unfold…

What we’re sold
Is not real gold
Look through the lies
And the truth behold

Life is a red pill that’s bringin’ me down
Our government’s taken their power to town
The voice of the people’s a script that they write
And broadcasted over day and night

“It never happened” – “there’s no such place”
Denied allegations to try to save face
The media feeds from out of their hands
So reliable news comes from foreign lands

What we’re told
Is getting old
Open your eyes
And let the truth unfold…

What we’re sold
Is all fool’s gold
Look through the lies
And the truth behold

“It’s just balls of lightning” or “conspiracy theory”
Predictable answers have made me weary
The rights they give themselves are the same they take away
From anyone who dares to get in their way

Convenient fast food increases their wealth
As it feeds another mouth while stealing its health
Television tells us what to fear and buy
While chemtrails cloud our once blue sky

What we’re told
Is getting old
Open your eyes
And let the truth unfold…

What we’re sold
Is not real gold
Look through the lies
And the truth behold

History repeats faster every year
“Education’s” washing people’s brains clear
They’re always there to show you all that you can be
Follow orders soldier! (and pray it hits tv.)

Just say no to drugs (but alcohol is fine)
That’s why every corner will sell you bottled wine
Smoking doesn’t count, ‘cause “anyone can quit”
And you know what to do if the glove doesn’t fit…

What we’re told
Is getting old
Open your eyes
And let the truth unfold…

What we’re sold
Is all fool’s gold
Look through the lies
And the truth behold

Religion is a system controlling weak through fright
Bloodshed in the name of God simply can’t be right
Doctors have a pill for everything that’s wrong
How about society which won’t be ‘round for long?

So what are we to do to reclaim all our rights?
Question everything and start to shed some light
The Internet is filled with different points of view
Wake up and pay attention ‘cause some of them are true

MARK,
What you say is true and I never thought man was sane. Perhaps he will survive.
Enjoyed the read.

Questions -- good.  Actions -- better.  Please remember, for every yang, there is a yin.  And goodness is everywhere, you've only to look.  Don't rely on the media to shed light upon the saintly souls, it is not their way.  But in truth, the heart of man is goodness.  One only needs the light in which to find it.

exactly the way I feel, you've take the words from my heart...I wish people would open their eyes and start demanding getting our country begin again, building on character and respect for and by it's people, reporting the truth, of what's really going on.  Thank you for writing and sharing.

Thank you kindly, Chris.  What's really interesting is what one finds when one begins to seek...

A hearty hug to you Kacy.  "Appear" is the operative word, isn't it?  Nothing is as it appears and nothing appears as it is...  until you start noticing patterns...  Good to hear from you again.

Seymour, I suppose "sanity" is a "democratic vote"...

Hiya Nancy.  May your thoughts always be provoked.

Hey Ericc:  The wow only gets bigger as you keep reading...  Thanks for stopping by.

Thank you Raph -- glad to see you've stuck around.

Susan:  It's specifically the "yin" that's grabbed my attention of late.  I'm under no delusion that it's the only thing out there, but with society, the media, and perpetual conditioning ad-infinitum being the daily ritual, it's easy to miss the "yang" behind the facade...  I don't rely on the media for anything other than a sense of cynical humor or a reafirmation of a homeostasis I'd love to see change.  I want to believe your "truth" and I definitely used to...  and I guess deep down inside there is a spark that still does, but I think that in order to combust that spark into a fire one must start by changing one's self and live the example.  Perhaps, only then, may others be inspired to do the same and fan the flames towards a more positive reality...  Thank you much for your insight and response.

illana:  That's only the beginning...

LeeJ:  That wish can be realized, one person at a time...

Hey Poet! (Hugs)
Propaganda...it's the new world order. Glad your listening to your own beat, searching for truth and writing about it too. Thrilled to read you again. Hang around a while, I need the thoughts you stir up.

My goodness Mark! Knowing the usual length of your poems, I do believe I just read the equivalent of 50 of them! lol That bares out the pounding passion behind this write.

Far too often we just accept as truth that
which the media and the politicians say is true. We've lost our thinking caps and it's about time we put them back on before all is lost!

Very stirring! Very distressing! ...So very true! ...However, I do believe the tide is turning and we are questioning more. Not all of us are naive little lambs being led to the slaughter.

An engaging write, Mark!

Love & Light,
Linda

Vandana:  thank you for your smile.

So good to see/read you again, Regina!  I'm not sure that the beat is my own, but the flow sure is.  Stay tuned then -- many more thoughts waiting to
"raise some Havoc."

Many thanks, Dixie.

Eric:  When "reality" is discovered, it can be changed...  Thanks for the read and words.

Hey there Ron...  more like "20-THOUSAND or more"...  There's enough material in "waking up" to span volumes, but not to worry:  I'll spread it out.     Thank you for your support.

A good day to you, Linda -- hope your health has returned to match your positive spirit.  The tide has indeed turned and is far from ebbing.  The 100th monkey (in office ) has been passed and humanity is reclaiming its birthright, but you wouldn't know it watching the "news"...  Time to turn to love again rather than fear and take back our power.  Namaste to you, friend...

Mark,

Yes, we must question everything. We must read and listen but, we must discern for the truth is well veiled. It can be so fustrating.

Thanks for reminding us all.
