I looked with tired old eyes
Gazing to hazy sunrise
Burning off night’s mist reprise
Till it can touch the concrete
And black asphalt of the street.
Where for now puddles linger
Left over from dark thunder.
Yet it is cool at dawning,
Sleepless rest leaves me yawning,
Night gone with brightening sky
Ends with the speed of a sigh.

Yet it is cool at dawning,
Sleepless rest leaves me yawning,

do I ever know this feeling Proff!  To often sleep does not come easily.  Pleasure to read your words this morning.

Good morning, Professor! You are a master at creating (or recreating!) such Kodak moments in time! I am still feeling the effects of your poem as I write my reply to you!

~ Peaceful, reflective and with its own unique and quiet beauty.

Thank you, Gentle Spirit,
Always a pleasure to see your response,
Hope you are doing better with dreamland than I.

Thank you, Earth Angel,
You are kind.

I know those sighs! I sometimes have to silently quote little ditties like "today is the day the Lord hath made.  Let us rejoice and be glad in it" to jump start my mind and the day.  Very well written.  I enjoyed the subject matter--yes, the sleepless rest...

I love this, Prof. That title
is very catching.

I've known this so well too.

Except I gripe and complain, rather than make it into a beautiful piece of writing to share with others.

You need to sleep.

But I do like how you write when you are tired.
