Visiting Earth on a Guest Pass

                 Summer Frost

sometimes
          a freeze will come
                    to darken the spring

and far too often
          leaves fade and tumble
                    down into an early fall

but to wake now
          on a summer morning
                    to the sound of frost

there is no question
          nothing to be asked
                    no clarity to seek

because a question
          implies the possibility
                    of at least an explanation

and when the frost
          arrives in summer
                    there’s obviously none
