We Were Meant To touch

Long after we've left each other
I can still feel your hands on me ~
feel them as close as my own skin,
touching all my secret places.

We've learned that we were meant to touch,
meant to reach past both our histories
to move each other with an embrace,
a light caress, a simple kiss.

Sometimes you touch me with your eyes
and I can feel them, finger-soft,
slowly tracing across my face ~
feel myself become like water.

The way you touch me with your mouth
can make me shiver deep inside,
as if a quick, unnerving wind
had blown across my careful heart.

I wonder if you know how much
I long to really touch you back ~
to reach inside your wounded soul
and ease its gentle sorrow.

I want to touch your world the way
a rainbow touches wet-leafed trees,
leaving fingerprints of light,
caressing every branch with color.

I want a chance to fill your nights
with wonder when you close your eyes
at how I showed you with a touch
all the women I can be.

I want to be the only one
you reach for when you feel alone ~
my hand to be the hand you need
when you feel the darkness closing in.

Let our touching be for you
that long desired healing balm ~
where other cures have failed to serve
let my hand,my touch, restore you.

This is a special one. A keeper. You touch as much with your words as you do with your hands. This poem reaches out and touches anyone who reads it. You have a gift of writing things that touch people. I enjoyed it, obviously.
