Put Yourself Into Someone Else's Place To put yourself fully in somebody’s place You just brandish a permanent mask on your face Wear a spanking new skin from your head to you’re your toes Go to all of the places the other one goes To put yourself fully in somebody’s shoes You must first choose the style and the fit he would choose Then you walk on the path that was laid out for him And forget all convictions you’re holding within There are phases and praises for which you must opt And a new set of tenets that you must adopt Change your family, your friends and the cut of your hair Then you purchase a whole other wardrobe to wear And what about language and custom and such? Well the burden of all of this gets a bit much So you put all his clothes and his shoes on the shelf And decide it is better to just be yourself Then you ponder the things he has told you before And you stop making judgments and stop keeping score You arrive at conclusions and leave him alone And you polish the old tarnished ways of your own Elizabeth Santos |

"Then you ponder the things he has told you before And you stop making judgments and stop keeping score You arrive at conclusions and leave him alone And you polish the old tarnished ways of your own" Great words we all should stop and ponder Liz. Love this, and oh my, your rhyme and meter are perfect!! ~Smiles & Hugs, Nancy~ ~Somewhere in my heart I'm always |

Do you realize how profound that was? To simply say, "put yourself in that person's shoes" is never enough to fully understand their journey. Now, if it were a prerequisite to actually be them for one whole day - wow - what a great world this might be. I loved this one Liz, and am definitely printing it for my binder full of your wisdom on the shelf here, to assume page ONE and replace my last favorite. |
